Anderson Academy

Last week, the new school at the Alingon home started that they named Anderson Academy. I’m teaching english to all the younger girls in the home and a few older girls. I have 9 4-7 year olds in the morning, and 4 11-13 year olds in the afternoon. A big age gap teaching them all together, school is very different here. This is entirely new for me and a big responsibility! Thankfully my friends mom (Jean) is here for a few weeks who has taught for 35 years and is giving me lots of advice. I really want these girls to thrive so I’m not taking this responsibility lightly. The teachers here sit with the girls as they work in a book and help them when they need it. When the children aren’t with me, they are in bangla class with another teacher. I’m teaching very different then what their used to.  Lots of singing and moving around, right up my alley! They love it, and they are learning so much english at the same time. Jean is teaching me lots of songs I can continue with them.

The older girls I teach are really behind but so eager to learn. They actually say thank you when I give them homework. It’s the sweetest thing. They love school. Two of them who are sisters, (Sweety and Joba) came to the home very malnourished 2 years ago and had very little or no education before. They have a lot of catching up to do.  Another girl in my class, Shilpi, just came to the home a few days ago and understands no english. Her older sister was trafficked not long ago and rescued by World Vision. They were concerned about this happening to Shilpi so they brought her to Alingon. She seems so happy to be at the home and is a quick learner. I’m excited to work with these girls and see their confidence grow as the slower girls in the home.

When the rest of the girls get home from school, (who go to school near by), it’s my free time with them. I’m loving getting to know each girls personalities. It’s my favorite part of the day being able to freely spend time with them and get to know them.

It’s truly an honor to be apart of these girls’ lives and have this amazing opportunity to teach them something that will help them in the future. I love them so much. I’m so happy to be on this journey with God and see what he does next!
