Village Education

I’ve mentioned a little about visiting a few of the villages here and the impact it made on me. Bangladesh is full of thousands of them, making it one of the poorest countries in the world. I went to Tipna again (the first village I went to) and 5 new ones. All the villages we visited was to see the girls that are in the education program through my friends NGO, Speak Up for the Poor, and a local NGO he’s partnered with called Dhruba. The creator of Dhruba, Uttum, grew up in the villages and knows the difficulties.

It’s $35 a month for 1 girl and pays for her supplies, transportation to school, tutors, uniforms, and enough left over to bring them all together for encouragement once a month. They’ve also bulit 3 learning centers in 3 villages for the girls to study in. There are 55 girls sponsored in the program now and hoping to reach so many more. It’s overwhelming to think of all the people in deep poverty but by reaching and inspiring some could encourage so many more girls behind them to stay out of early marriage and continue with their education.Β Some parents can’t afford their kids to go or it’s not important. The burdens of poverty fall heaviest on girls.

If you’re interested in sponsoring a girl, contact me and I will let you know how! Or go to SpeakUpforthePoor.org and find out more information (under GEP). I personally know the people involved and know they have amazing hearts and put their life into this and are building relationships with every village. These girls are beaming with joy that their in school and have big dreams! (Most of them want to be doctors!)

My parents are sponsoring Shati and Moyna, and I’m sponsoring Tonusree and Anamika.

P.S. I’m still trying to figure out this blog thing and know my pictures look small and lame but with everything taking so long with my slow wifi, I gave up. πŸ™‚

Hi Hillarie! Yay!! Go to speakupforthepoor.org
Go to donate, and you will find the $35 girls education button, and make it recurring. A great thing is that I will see all of the girls on February 8 and will see the girl they give you and can show her your picture and tell her about you! Someone will get in contact with you after you sign up! Thanks so much Hillarie! You will change this girls life!
