New Life….

Today marks my 3rd day in Khulna….after 2 1/2 days of traveling I’m starting to feel normal and not jet lagged.

God works in amazing ways…here’s 1…during my layover in Singapore, which had the most amazing airport I have ever seen, (the butterfly garden was my favorite), I sat next to a man at Starbucks and asked him how he got wifi…..we started chatting and he mentioned how he lives and works in Khulna! There are almost no foreigner’s in Khulna. He also has a colleague from Pasadena who lives here as well! It was an awesome connection to make and to have people I can connect with while I’m here is amazing.

It was so great to see the girls at the Alingon Home again. They have 3 new girls living there from the brothel. They are around 4 and 5 years old, this makes for 19 girls now. I start teaching english next week for 11 of the younger girls. I can’t wait!

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a meeting for a new education program my friend Troy has started through his NGO. It provides all the supplies needed in school for girls in many rural villages near by. There are 75 girls in the program and many of them weren’t attending school before. This is AMAZING!!  It’s very common for a 15 year old to get married off and not continue with her education. It was such an honor to be there and see the excitement these beautiful girls had for their future. A new beginning for them! We (Troy, his parents Vaylon and Jean) went to 1 of the villages. By far the highlight of my day. One girl I connected with, Butika, happened to be her village and she couldn’t wait to show me around.  Every home we stopped at, they fed us and welcomed us with open arms. These kind people are so poor and all they wanted to do is care for us and give us food. I really hope to stay with them at some point. Such incredibly generous people. It truly inspired me.

There isn’t one thing about this culture that’s like American culture…adaptability is a must….here I go….

We are really benefited a lot from samaritans like she is. We the privileged in the society must offer a helping hand to these causes. Best of luck! (Today I had a glimpse of her thru’ TV camera watching a cricket match in Khulna! It’s heartening that she is trying to know our people, culture.)
